I had always operate on a balanced perspective to respond, based on fact and proof. This is possibly a most common and general way any human being would too. Seeing is believing! and if you don't see, its obvious that you won't believe.
Operating in this known instinct in us, we live our lives very much in-tune to both visual and audible reference to form our opinions, thinking and responses.
What I am about to share below is a personal account of myself hearing the audible voice of God for the fist time. I hope this inspires you.
We all remembered the tragic events of December 26th 2004 when hundreds of thousands were wiped out by the Tsunami that hit Acheh in Indonesia.
As a budding singer and songwriter, it stirred in my heart a response to share healing to the hurting world through a song I had written days after the Tsunami on January 3rd 2005.
In the chorus line of the song I wrote " Look above beyond the hills, there's a light you can find"
pointing to the light as a source of hope, comfort and peace as commonly known in the secular term " Light at the end of the tunnel". As a Christian, that light was more than a light of Hope, but light that points you to God the comforter, in your moment of grief, despair and hopelessness. As the Message in the form of the light went through my mind, I had envision, light from the sky and envision the ALBUM COVER to represent that light. And in that instance, I heard a voice.
It came from within me that started from my stomach, rose upwards to my head where my ears received the audible and clear audible words "Take out the Camera"
At this point, my human perception and reasoning based on my current visual reference in my surrounding was all dark and I questioned the voice. "Lord, why should I take out the camera? its dark and its going to rain and there's nothing to take".
Immediately the voice repeated "Take Out The Camera"
As an act of faith, as much as I doubted the voice, I figured I had nothing to lose. With not much enthusiasm, I obeyed out of obedience and took my little camera. Uncertain of where to begin, I figured I start from getting out of the apartment. So I went down and got into my car. I drove out of the security post and saw light coming from behind the trees. I went by into the other housing estate to the edge of the cliff and shot this magnificent photograph.
If this is not light from the sky, I don't know what else to envision. After capturing this photograph on January 3rd 2005 at 6.43pm from Bukit Antarabangsa where I live, I had a thousand copies developed at the photo shop to give away to my friends and people who bought my albums.
As I held the very first copy in my hand, I realize that the voice I heard was real. If it wasn't for the prompting of God's voice, I wouldn't have this photograph in my hand. It was that moment I realize that what I heard was real and true.
As I continued to look at this photograph for a good one month, I noticed that there was a section of the cloud where its as if, being cut-off abruptly if you can see on the middle right just below the rays of light. I had questioned God, O Lord why is this cloud so weirdly shaped? I exclaimed. Didn't think of it much as the photo itself was overwhelmingly by its nature.
2 months passed and I receive a call, "Patrick, you got to look at the photo , Jesus is in the picture" my friend exclaimed.
My response was this " You gotta be kidding me " Jesus in this picture! So I looked and looked, turned the photograph vertically and saw nothing. So I drove from my office in KL to his office in Puchong. In his office, the photo held in its right perspective, there it was, a form of a man in his robe revealed in front of the light. I thought it was an angel. But when I saw it, the voice spoke, "I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me, if you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him (John 14:6&7) NIV
At that point I was convinced it was Jesus. Here the photo in vertical format

After the further revelation of Christ in this picture, my faith elevated, my prayer life elevated, my devotion elevated and my mental capacity in its reasoning, seize its ability to always be so relevant in my perception to refer to proof and self justification. God had offended my mental capacity to reveal the state of my heart, which was self belief.
Wherever I sing and share this testimony, I remind others to refrain from snapping pictures of the sky and justify that it is of a form,something to make believe. This is not the objective of my sharing of this photograph, the objective is to simply get caught up with the source (GOD) in our lives for Him to reveal Himself plainly to us in our daily life. Most of the times our human reasoning and perception to visual or audible proof gets in the way because it makes no sense when the information is processed in our minds.
Faith without action is dead. Faith is to respond even when we cannot comprehend a logical explanation or reasoning in our minds, provided we clearly hear Him.
I believe that GOD desires to reveal Himself to us in a powerful way such as this that I had experienced to anybody who seeks Him first. But I also believe that He comes and reveals Himself to those who draw close, yielded and surrendered to Him. As a condition in the Word of God found in the book of James 4:8 Come near to God and He will come hear to you.
I share in humility that I have not arrived to a righteousness that supersedes others, that God revealed Himself to me in this testimony as a person who's been there and done that, but rather share with you that the simple desire of God to reveal Himself to you, comes only if you desired Him first.
Sure it comes with a wholehearted discipline to desire Him in your life, daily and in fact live every second in a conscious awareness of God in you, around you and through you.
And when you hear His voice, you will certainly know that it is HIM who speaks.
